Fort Worth Woman’s Club Met at PappaRotti’S

June 12, 2009 by papparottis

Members of Fort Worth Woman’s Club showed up for a meeting and wine tasting at PappaRotti’S Wine Room Wednesday. They enjoyed some great wines and cheeses but I think the thing they enjoyed most was the chance to kick back and enjoy each others company. Conversation. Laughter. We provided live music and free pizza for the group.

Azienda Due Torri Pinot Noir 2007

May 2, 2009 by papparottis

This wine came up at around table 23 in that great Avante tasting of 30 April, 2009.  I was very interested to see this Italian wine labeled Pinot Noir rather than the usual Pinot Nero.  Great labeling move for the U.S. market.  After a week of cold maceration, the wine was fermented in stainless steel.  This preserved much of the fresh fruit quality.  The nose on this beauty reveals a new world style featuring light spice over black cherry and strawberry aromas.     Lush black cherry fruit notes dominate the silky palate and extend into the soft velvety finish.  This wine will pair well with poultry or a roast loin of that other white meat.  If you want to go a bit more exotic, try it with pan seared duck breast with dried cherry wine sauce.  My favorite pairing, however, is with a second glass of the same.  I am a simple man.  Just ask my wife.  Mack Carder, CS

Avante Tasting a Smashing Success

May 1, 2009 by papparottis

Avante Beverages christened their new warehouse today with a great portfolio tasting.  I think there were 26 tables filled with excellent wines in all price ranges.  Can’t be sure though, because I worked my way through about 80% of the offerings.  Yes, I did spit but I still absorbed a lot of alcohol.  I found several new wines for the PappaRotti’S list.  They will arrive Friday, May 1.

Reviews to follow later.

Great Table Wine From Niepoort

June 19, 2008 by papparottis

Port Wine is still the staple of the Portugese wine industry but talented producers are using local grape varieties to produce wonderful table wines.  Niepoort Tiara Branco(2006) is a rich, luscious white wine with just the right amount of balancing acidity.  The tech sheet lists the grape varieties as Codega, Rabigato, Donzelinho, Viosinho, Arinto, and others.  I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t tell me much.  Your first taste will tell you all you need to know, however.   Subtle notes of apricot and peach highlight a core of citrus and green apple on nose and palate, and evolve into a long mineral-laced finish.  Fermentation was with natural yeast.  The wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation and saw no oak.  Expect to pay $30 retail and more in restaurants and wine bars.  Certainly not cheap, but undoubtedly an experience worth the price.
